Do Not Mistake Pressure for Lack of Ability

Today, a student called me and said, “Ma'am, I'm not improving. I can't even do Task 2 properly anymore. I feel stuck.”

At first, I thought we were talking about French.

Then she said, “My husband keeps asking me when I'll clear the exam. I'm not earning right now. Everyone is waiting for me to finish this.”

And suddenly, I realised.

French was not the only problem. She was carrying the pressure of an entire family while trying to learn a language.

It immediately took me back to my own French journey.

For almost a year, I studied day in and day out. And I could do that because my family created space for me.

My husband would take care of Ivan, my son. He would bathe him, take him to the park, and spend time with him while I studied. My in-laws stepped in too.

Looking back, I realise this: my French result had my name on it, but the journey was never mine alone.

And that is why, when a woman tells me, “I'm not improving,” sometimes I want to ask her: What are you carrying outside French?

Are you managing the house, the children, the finances, and everyone's expectations, and then sitting down at night to study?

Is someone constantly asking you, “When will you clear?” “How much longer?” “Everyone is waiting because of you.”

And then you wonder why your mind goes blank during a mock test.

Sometimes, French is innocent. Sometimes, you are simply trying to perform while carrying too much.

To the families whose PR dream is resting on one person's French score:

If everyone will benefit from the result, then everyone needs to support the preparation too.

1. Take one responsibility off her plate.

2. Give her dedicated time and mental space to focus.

3. Do not make every bad mock test feel like a family crisis.

Because if everyone is waiting for the fruit, everyone should help water the tree.
